Growth Creates Crisis
by Alex Charfen
Last week, I had massive, overwhelming anxiety. Here's why, I was sick. I was actually sick from before the 1st of July, until about Saturday or Sunday, so over seven days.
This may be one of the most important podcasts I’ve ever put out. What I know about my coaching programs is that we are going to help entrepreneurs grow businesses. I say that with certainty because I know that’s what’s going to happen.
I’ve been up the Billionaire Code more than once and I can tell you bluntly, growth is not simple or easy. We need to understand what the reality of growth means. The path to success has massive pitfalls, growth creates crisis.

I'm Alex Charfen and this is The Momentum podcast made for empire builders, game changers, trailblazers, shot takers, record breakers, world makers, and creators of all kinds. Those among us who can't turn it off and don't know why anyone would want to. We challenge complacency, destroy apathy, and we are obsessed with creating momentum so we can roll over bureaucracy and make our greatest contribution. Sure, we pay attention to their rules but only so that we can bend them, break them, then rewrite them around our own will. We don't accept our destiny, we define it. We don't understand defeat because you only lose if you stop, and we don't know how. While the rest of the world strives for average and clings desperately to the status quo, we are the minority, the few who are willing to hallucinate there could be a better future, and instead of just daydreaming of what could be, we endure the vulnerability and exposure it takes to make it real. We are the evolutionary hunters, clearly the most important people in the world because entrepreneurs are the only source of consistent, positive human evolution, and we always will be.
Growth creates crisis. Last week, we had just an incredible week. It was the Billionaire Code Summit where we have a lot of our high level grow and scale clients who have million dollar plus businesses attend. We also had several of our leverage clients that have $300,000 plus businesses attend, and then we had a handful of guests as well and it was just an absolutely incredible week. What I know about what we're teaching the people in the room at the Billionaire Code Summit, what I know what we're teaching the people in our coaching programs is that we are going to grow their businesses.
I say that with a level of certainty of having done it myself over and over again even in crisis, having shown entrepreneurs how to do it themselves over and over again also almost always in crisis, and having the track record that's pretty public of showing high producing entrepreneurs how to very quickly scale and grow businesses at a rate that just isn't normal for small business. I know that's going to happen as soon as we can get the people in our programs to implement and apply everything that we teach them, which for some people takes as little as two or three weeks, and then we're there to coach them and help them along, and other people it can take six months to nine months depending on what's going on in their organization or what type of help they have, but when they get our systems in place, we know that we are going to create a massive growth engine within their business because what will happen with certainty is that one, everyone on the team will have clear outcomes. They will know where they're going. They will have confidence taking every step forward every day.
Two, everyone on the team will know what they're responsible for, what they're accountable to, who's responsible for what, so that people aren't banging into each other. Then, three, you will have scoreboards throughout your organization so that each department understands how the company is doing and each person understands how the company is doing, how they're doing, how the team is doing so that everyone can go forward with clarity. When you put these things into a business and you do them in the right way and you add a communication system so everyone knows when they're going to hear from you, what they can expect from you and you have clear forward planning so the team knows where they're going, your business is going to grow.
Are these things simple? No. They're not simple, but when they're added into a business and when you put time into them and when you start to understand them and they can become easy. That's the whole goal. We want your communication structure, we want your hiring systems, we want your forward planning to be as easy as possible so that you grow as fast as possible because here's the hard thing about running a business is your unique deliverable. How do we keep making it better? How do we keep growing the market you're going after as you grow? How do we keep expanding what you're doing? How do we keep making it relevant? How do we get people to buy from you again and again? How do we create a situation where you become the unadulterated 100% absolute leader in your category so that you are riding a wave of momentum of the social movement you've created? That's what we drive to in our programs and that's where people get.
When people come here to Austin and it's behind the scenes and it's in person with me, I take a much, much deeper dive of our content. A few times in the next few weeks I'm gonna just share some of that with you, moments in the course or moments during the time people were here that I thought were significant or relevant in a way that you should hear. If you've heard the episodes on the Billionaire Code of this podcast, if you have, then this will be familiar to you, because what I'm doing is I'm talking about going up the Billionaire Code. If you haven't heard the episodes on the Billionaire Code, I would go back to episode 181 right now and listen to them, because this may be one of the most important podcasts I've ever put out.
This is why I'm giving you some behind the scenes, because when I'm in front of entrepreneurs, I coach in a way where I only talk about reality and I talk about it in the most direct and blunt way possible, because we know we're gonna help people grow businesses. I need them all to understand what the reality of that growth will be, because I've been there. One of the biggest challenges with coaches who teach people how to grow and scale businesses today is that they do so without really having grown nor scaled businesses. Challenge your coach and find out how many businesses they've really grown and to what size because most are running the biggest business that they have right now and it was information products.
Challenge the people you work with to understand what they've really done, because here's the issue, if your coach, if the person advising you, if the person you're learning from, if the coaching program you're in can't tell you the pitfalls before you're falling down them then it doesn't matter how good that system, that program, that framework is, because you're gonna end up in the pitfalls, and there's this place in business where if you haven't actually done it, if you haven't sat next to people doing it, if you haven't watched it, you just don't know.
I'll present to you that not only have I grown multi-million dollar businesses in the dozens, Cadey and I own dozens, and in the tens of millions, we've had five. In the hundreds of millions, I've had one and it was one of my first in my 20s. I've been through this movie and I've been up the Billionaire Code more than once and no one else is gonna tell you how it really feels, because it doesn't look good as part of a marketing program. From the day I decided to put this podcast out, I told myself it would never be a marketing tool, it would be a coaching tool and that anyone who listened to this podcast and was willing to implement what I say would see radical change in their business and radical change in their life. Part of the reason I'm sharing this specifically with you is that if you've been listening to this podcast and implementing, then you already know what I'm talking about. Things are already changing for you.
It's my assumption that just listening to this podcast, you've probably changed enough that you've made some of the people around you uncomfortable. It's my assumption that just by listening to this podcast, you might have even had some of your friends maybe not call you back or not be as quick to say things. It's my assumption that listening to this podcast you probably offended at least one person by trying to share something on this and having them take it the wrong way or not really graciously accept it.
It's possible that none of that's happened to you. It depends on how long you've been listening and how fast you listen , but I kn otherwise that that happens to a lot of people because as we start to grow as human beings, we create crisis. This is a short segment of the course I taught this week in front of my highest level clients about what happens as you go up the Billionaire Code, what you experience, what it feels like, and what you must be expecting and why I coach entrepreneurs on health and on wellness and on exercise and nutrition and breathing and movement and planning your day and morning routines and everything that I possibly can holistically for the entire entrepreneur to help you lower your pressure and noise everywhere because this is what it's really like to be an entrepreneur piloting a hyper-fast growth company. I've done it five times in my life and I help people do it every day. This is how it really is.
There's a lot of talk these days about billionaires and about the wealthy and about the 1% and making a lot of money. Here's what I know from having words with some of the wealthiest people in the world and from having been on this journey myself. I was born to very humble means. I was a garage sale clothed kid. My parents never had a lot of money. They did better later in life, but I come from really humble beginnings.
The path to success has had massive pitfalls, like I talked about. Over and over again, even when I could anticipate sometimes what was coming, I couldn't adjust enough to get things better before there was another crisis. This is why I am constantly coaching entrepreneurs to lower the pressure and noise in their lives. For you to lower the pressure and noise in your life and if you are growing a business, then you must grow a team in a way that you can respect them and trust them and they respect and trust each other, because then they will protect you and they will have your back in the business and it will work and your business will grow. You'll create lateral pressure and the business will do well and you'll start building that insulation from the noise.
Whenever an entrepreneur tells me they're gonna grow their business as big as they can without ever hiring anyone, I always feel so sorry for them, because the day you start to build with a team is the day you start to remove yourself from the noise of the business and you can elevate yourself to the strategy of growth. You start to remove yourself from the pressure of the day to day and you elevate yourself to looking strategically at the opportunities you have. When you do those things, when you do this, you see a bigger future for the business. You see more opportunity for the business. You have a different perspective about what you're doing every day. You will grow as a human being and that's why, in part, this is so important.
As you're growing, when you have a structure and a way that your team always knows they'll hear from you and you have clear hiring systems and forward planning, this is why you have to obsess over these things because you will always have an increasing level of noise as you grow your business.
I want you to understand something. If you enhance your ability to deal with noise, you will grow your business. That's why I talk to people about hydration and nutrition and breathing and movement and meditation and the habits and principles that will help entrepreneurs create momentum and lower pressure and noise, because it's an offset for everything we deal with and as you build a team, you build insulation but you build responsibility and you will feel the weight of the responsibility you have. You will feel the weight of the people who look to you to make their living as you hire a team, as you grow an organization, you will feel it, but when you have systems and structure in place, they will offset the pressure that creates, but you have to obsess over them. Because you get to a place in business where your forward planning system, your communication structuring, your ability to bring on the right people are pretty much all there is.
I want to help you get there, but I'm gonna take you on the path and let you know when you're gonna fall down the pit in advance so you don't have to, because I think most of us as entrepreneurs have experienced enough lessons and fail forward, fail fast is a good way to get started but it is not a life growth strategy. Applying the right structure and frameworks and systems to your life and your business so that you can have predictable results and predictable growth is the way that entrepreneurs like us hit that place that Maslow talked about called self-actualization. When we have the leverage of a team, when we have the reflection of that team back on us, when we create that change in the world we want to see, that's when we step into and become who we always have known we should be.
