Momentum Podcast: 3

We Are Momentum Based Beings

by Alex Charfen

Episode Description

Every entrepreneur has been told they don't feel right.  We're also often told we don't make other people feel right. Feelings are confusing to us. We're different than the rest of the world. Entrepreneurial Personality Types, people like you and I, are hard-wired momentum-based beings.

There are three states we go through; the first one is in momentum. We've been convinced that it's temporary, but the fact is, you know that's when you feel alive. The second one is when we're facing resistance. You know, when the world's coming at you, you can't see a way out, but you see a small light at the end of the tunnel. When everyone else in the world is saying, “It's a train,” you're the one who can see the opportunity, and you again create momentum. We are momentum-based beings, that's why the third state is the one that is so fundamentally dangerous for us. It's when we're in full constraint. It's when the world has conspired against us when usually we've conspired against ourselves. We don't see the way out. We can't see forward. We feel completely stuck in place. Sound familiar?

If you've felt this way, know that you're not alone. I feel it all the time, and so do the majority of entrepreneurs. If you want to join a tribe of people just like you, reach out to us at https://billionairecode.com/apply-now.

Good morning. It's early Saturday morning, I'm down in the basement, Cadey and the girls are asleep upstairs, and I was just restless, so I came down to record this podcast, because, gosh, I'm having fun doing these, and this topic's really important for people like you and I. First, I just want to thank you if you've shared these, if you're listening to them, if you're sending them to people you know who are like us, thank you, I appreciate it.

This episode's a little different. I want to start with the statement that I want to challenge you. I don't think that people like us know the difference between happy and sad. Here's why. I'll make an argument here, don't go anywhere. Every entrepreneur has been told they don't feel right. You tell me, hasn't your confusion been mistaken for aggression? Hasn't your irritation been mistaken for anger? Haven't you heard things like, "Hey, why are you so excited?" "Why aren't you more excited?" "Why are you so happy?" "Why aren't you more happy?" "How do you feel? Can't you just tell me how you are feeling?" People like us are constantly told we don't feel right.

We're also often told we don't make other people feel right. This world of feelings is confusing to us. How many a times have you heard things like, "You hurt someone's feelings without even trying"? I'm one of those people that I can make someone cry just by having a conversation, and it wasn't on purpose. How many time have you, ladies, let's be honest, have you been called a bitch for just being yourself, or trying to get something done? We're often told we don't make other people feel right.

The fact is that when somebody says to someone like us, "How are you feeling?" the question is confusing, because what we want to tell them is, "I'm feeling like you should stop asking me that, and I want to resolve what's going on," because we are hard-wired differently, and that's why I believe you don't know the difference between happy and sad.

I know you figured it out, it's binary, it's on/off, happy's on, sad's off. However, what's the difference between sad, frustrated, pissed off, ticked off, confused, and just plain not going to talk to you? The fact is, there's little if any difference at all, and for us, it's really all just these magical world of feelings we don't understand. How many of you, like me, have been in front of that chart with the title that says, "How are you feeling?" You know what I'm talking about. It has all the faces on it, and there's happy and sad, and all the feelings I just named. I can remember when I was a kid, and by the way, if you haven't seen it, then let me remind you where you might have been. The principal's office, the vice principal's office, disciplinary's office, the probation office, warden's office. I'm just telling you where I've seen it. I'm kidding, kind of.

Every time I was parked in front of that chart, it felt like a pop quiz I wasn't prepared for. Over time, I realized if I would just answer "sleepy," they would think it was environmental and leave me alone. See, that magical world of feelings doesn't work for us. Entrepreneurs are hard-wired differently. Here's what I believe you've been after your whole life: momentum. You tell me. Did you hear me say that, or did you feel it? Does that word "momentum" make you feel tingly? Do you know that that's what you want? Do you know how it feels to be in momentum?

There's three states, the first one is in momentum. For people like you and I, what does that really feel like? Depending on where I'm speaking, I get answers anywhere from ecstasy, and incredible, and alive, and like you can do anything, and like the whole world's open and available, and like you're achieving, and the fact is momentum really is where people like you and I feel alive, and it's been written about for centuries. The state of momentum, flow, in the zone. We've been convinced that it's temporary, but the fact is you know that that is when you feel alive, that is our purpose, it's to be in momentum.

Now, the second state that we get into? There's only three. The second one is when we're facing resistance. This is when the world's coming at you, this is when you don't have the resources, you don't have what it's going to take, you can't really see a way out, but you see a small light at the end of the tunnel, and when everyone else in the world is saying, "It's a train," you're the one who can see the opportunity, and you again create momentum. We are momentum-based beings, that's why the third state is the one that is so fundamentally dangerous for us. It's when we're in full constraint. It's when the world has conspired against us, when usually we've conspired against ourselves, we really don't see the way out, we can't see forward, we feel completely and totally stuck in place.

Here's what I know about being in momentum. You are physically, cognitively, and chemically boosted. You actually can do more. You think more clearly, and you have that chemical high of being in momentum where there is a reciprocal effect when we are in constraint. When we're in constraint, our bodies break down. You know if you've been there, they break down almost immediately. When we're in constraint cognitively, we get confused. It's harder for us to make decisions. And when we're in constraint chemically, we get depressed, frustrated, upset, and we have an impossible time seeing how to move on.

Here's why this is so important for people like you and I, because this I when you become symptomatic. This is when the exact attributes that make us successful turn on us and can make us look like we are depressed, and angry, and frustrated, and confused, and ADD, and ADHD, and bi-polar, and Asperger's, and autistic, and megalomaniacal, and all the other shit that people like you and I get labeled all the time now, and now, it's not starting when you're 18, it's starting when you're 18 months. It's ridiculous what percentage of 14 year old boys are on stimulants right now because they're momentum-based beings, they can't sit still for six hours, and you know and I know that neither one of us could either.

We're different than the rest of the world. Entrepreneurial personality types are hard-wired momentum-based beings. In the next episode, I'm going to start breaking down for you the 10 entrepreneurial personality type attributes, so you can see where all the success in your life has come from, and you can see where the success in your future will come from, and you can absolutely, with certainty, qualify yourself as an entrepreneurial personality type.

If this meant something to you, do me a favor, share it for me. It's early Saturday morning, I'm breaking every social media rule here, hardly anyone's watching, so I'm going to need some help to get some comments on this one. Thank you.
