Never Say Never

As you know, last week, I was at a Taki Moore's event, and spend the time with a bunch of coaches. A lot of them are now calling us to understand what our services are, so today, we had somebody get on the phone with Jeremy, and I was just talking to Jeremy about a sales call, and the first thing that the person told Jeremy was, “Hey, I just want you to know, if we end up working together, I don't want to do a daily huddle.”
We hear about predetermined constraint all the time. It is one of the biggest barriers to companies' scale. Let me explain to you why what this person said was such a massive, overwhelming, growth-ending constraint.
Predetermined decisions that entrepreneurs have creates a massive loss in momentum. When we set up constraints and barriers of saying we will never do something, it hurts us. Instead, be open-minded to change. Allow yourself and your team the opportunity to review something before you make a decision. Don't go into something thinking you will never do this or that, because chances are the minute you say “never,” that almost ensures you will eventually.
To grow your business, you're going to have to change your behavior and allow your perspective to adjust. When you allow your perspective to shift, you will see the world differently, which will lead you to different opinions than you first had. Growth in business equals behavioral change, and perspective shift equals business growth. If you want to scale your business, change is inevitable. To make things easier on you and your team, don't create predetermined constraints. When you change your behavior and stop saying never, you will experience a massive shift and acceleration in your business.

We hear about predetermined constraint all the time. It is one of the biggest barriers to companies' scale. Let me explain to you why what this person said was such a massive, overwhelming, growth-ending constraint.

We are the evolutionary hunters, clearly the most important people in the world, because entrepreneurs are the only source of consistent, positive human evolution, and we always will be. Jeremy, who works with us in sales today, gets on a call, and the first thing he hears is, "Hey, I just want to let you know, if we end up working together, I don't want to do a daily huddle." Here's what happened on that call. Let me explain to you what I see there.
An entrepreneur got on a phone call, where he is reaching out to a company and asking for help, and the first thing he's telling that company is what he is and isn't willing to do. Here's what I want you to know about that type of a call for us. We see this all the time, predetermined constraints and barriers that entrepreneurs have erected in their minds and that caused them massive loss of momentum. One of the biggest issues with predetermined decisions like this like, "We will never do a daily huddle" just doesn't make sense. I've heard this from countless clients.
We have people come in all the time and say, "I'm never going to do, insert whatever part of our program we have," and we just comply and say, "Okay," and then allow the perspective that they have to shift as they enter our program, because here's something I want you to know. This is a fact of being an entrepreneur. In order to grow your business, you're going to have to change behavior. In order to grow your business and change behavior, you're going to have to allow your perspective to adjust. If you grow your business and allow your perspective to adjust, you're going to see the world differently, and when you see the world differently, you're going to have different opinions than you have today.
That's just how it works. I've been doing this for over 25 years. I've watched hundreds of entrepreneurs grow businesses. I've heard, "I'm going to never, insert whatever it is, over, and over, and over again." In fact, these days, when somebody says, "Well, I want you to know I'm never going to," I go, I usually say back to them, "Well, you've just cursed yourself. You said never, which means it's absolutely going to happen because you can never say never," because as entrepreneurs, we are always the person who's going to be the catalyst to growth of the business, and when we say never, it almost ensures that is going to happen to us.
Here's what I want you to understand. In a growing business, growth equals behavioral change. Perspective shift, and you're going to see things differently, so this is why this is so important. When that person said, "I'm not going to do a daily huddle today," here's what we know in our company with perspective. That's what you're saying right now, but that's not a permanent decision.
You may think it is, but it really isn't, because here's what we know. You're the most important person in your business, and if we can show you a way to get massive leverage in your business, create momentum and growth in a way that takes less of your time and makes it easier on you, you're going to do it like the hundreds of other of entrepreneurs that we've helped, and we have had dozens of people come in and say, "I'm never going to do a daily huddle," and I'll share with you some of those results in just a second, because we see it all the time over and over again. Another thing that I want you to understand about this, this predetermined constraint, like when you say, "I'm never going to," your constraint becomes the company's constraints, so choose wisely. Like I have constraints in business. I don't want to sell firearms.
I don't ever want to be involved in porn. I don't really want to be involved in marijuana distribution. I don't think there's anything wrong with being in marijuana distribution. I have some serious challenges with porn and guns, but I don't ... I mean, I think if somebody wants to sell marijuana in a state where it's legal, that's great.
They can do it. I don't want to do it. There's predetermined constraints I have in my business, but like doing a daily huddle, certainly is not one of them. If somebody can show me a exercise that I can do in my business that will make the business better, then I will absolutely take a look at it and understand it because in my business, almost every time I've experienced a massive shift, a massive acceleration, a big change, it's been because I've changed behavior and I'm aware of that. Another thing I want you to think about is your perspective is going to shift, but you have to allow it to shift.
If you walk around saying, "I'm never going to, insert whatever it is," you've erected a barrier to anything that that thing could give you, so when you say, "I'm never going to have a daily huddle in my company," what you're saying is you're never going to do one, you're never going to let anybody else to do one, you're never going to allow the power of a daily meeting like a daily huddle to influence your team. No matter how big your team gets, you're never going to happen. In fact, there will be a size of team that you have where you're going to have to fight against a daily huddle. Are you sure you want to go that far? Predetermined constraints will hurt you.
Here's what you should know about this. If you want to grow your business, behavioral change equals business growth, period. Perspective shift equals business growth. You can't have one without the other, so when you say, "I will never," be sure that you mean I will never. When I hear someone say, "I will never do a daily huddle," it makes me laugh because we've heard it from years and perspective shifts.
Like I said, I'll share in just a second. If you want to grow, and another thing you need to know, if you want to grow, change is inevitable, changing your perspective, changing what you do, changing what you're going to do on a daily basis, changing the activities you'll be involved with. I've worked with entrepreneurs that from day one of their business to five years later, they're doing things they never thought they would do. You listen to successful entrepreneurs in their dialogue, you hear them say things like, "I'm now doing, insert whatever it is, and I never thought I would be here. I never saw myself doing this.
I never thought I would have the ability to do this or stand in front of people like this, or speak like this, or do videos like this, or be in this type of an event," whatever it is. Growth changes who you are. Change is inevitable. Allow it to happen. Then, another thing you need to know is never say never.
When somebody says, "I'm never going to do a daily huddle," I laugh because I know they're going to, and when somebody says, "I'm never," and then insert whatever it is, I laugh because I know it's going to happen. As entrepreneurs, when we fight something that hard, our energy attracts it into our lives, and it's going to happen anyway. When somebody says, "Never going to do the daily huddle," I'm like, "You just started a stopwatch to the day where you have your first." When it comes to something like the daily huddle, this actually makes me laugh, because we've had so many entrepreneurs come into our programs and say, "I'm not going to do a daily huddle." In fact, Wallace Nelson, who he and his wife, Ashlyn run a huge supplement company, I remember him saying, "Do we really need to do this? Do you think this will work?"
Then, it went from, "I don't think this will work and I don't know if I want to do it," to installing it in his business and having it be huge, to then being in an event with him, where he walked out in the hallway to be on his daily huddle because he just couldn't miss it. It was that big a part of his life. It went from, "I don't want to do it," to, "I can't miss it." Emily Hirsh, same thing. I remember when I first suggested a huddle to Emily Hirsh.
I mean, she wasn't doing any meetings with her team, so to do a daily meeting with her team felt like this massive, crazy, "You've got to be kidding me," but then she started doing the daily huddle, and if you ask Emily today, what she thinks of the daily huddle, she'll tell you, just like she recently told me, "It's the most important meeting in her business every day. Can you imagine missing the most important meeting in your business every day because you had a predetermined constraint that you were never going to do it when you didn't understand it, and didn't really even know what was going on? Come on. You don't want to be that entrepreneur that misses stuff this dramatically because you will, and it's going to hurt you, and it's challenging, and it's frustrating. In a business, don't create predetermined constraint.
Don't say, "I'm never going to." Allow for review. Look at things. Understand them. The person today that told us he was never going to do a daily huddle, he could easily have just said, "I wonder how I can get the daily huddle done without having to do it myself."
When we, as entrepreneurs create this massive constraint, it will hold us back. It will hold us in place, and then we will look up one day and ask ourselves, "Why didn't we create the business we wanted? Why aren't we getting everything we want? Why aren't we actually moving forward in the way that we wanted to?", and a lot of times, it's predetermined constraint, it's a never we've set up in our head before we really understood it, and we're walking around with barriers to the success we've always been wanting.
