Introduction

Hey, everyone. It's Jeremy again from Alex Charfen's team and this is part two of Alex's presentation at the Titan summit. In this part, Alex starts to unpack the different states of momentum. This is absolutely critical for any entrepreneur. When we're in momentum, going forward and moving, we're exactly where we want to be. Alex talks about this. We're connected to our purpose, our soul. It's really who we are and when we're not, we're in constraint.

Episode Description

Tune in for part 2 of my presentation at the Titan Summit. In this section, I unpack the three different states of momentum. Knowing the states of momentum is critical for any entrepreneur. Because when we're in momentum going forward, we are exactly where we want to be. It's then that we are connected to our purpose, our soul, it's who we are. But when we're not, we are in constraint, and we're miserable.

As Entrepreneurial Personality Types (EPTs), we are momentum-based beings. We are physiologically, cognitively, and chemically sensitive. Listen in as we discuss the three states of momentum: being in momentum, facing resistance, and dealing with constraint.

If you're looking for clarity on how to really scale your business and stay in momentum, head over to https://billionairecode.com/apply-now.

Speaker 1: Hey, everyone.

Speaker 2: I'm Alex Charfen and this is the momentum podcast made for empire builders, game changers, trailblazers, shot takers, record breakers, world makers and creators of all kinds. Those among us who can't turn it off and don't know why anyone would want to. We challenge complacency, destroy apathy, and we are obsessed with creating momentum so we can roll over bureaucracy and make our greatest contribution. Sure, we pay attention to their rules, but only so that we can bend them, break them, then rewrite them around our own will. We don't accept our destiny, we define it. We don't understand defeat, because you only lose if you stop and we don't know how. While the rest of the world strives for average and clings desperately to the status quo, we are the minority, the few who are willing to hallucinate there could be a better future. And instead of just daydreaming of what could be, we endure the vulnerability and exposure it takes to make it real. We are the evolutionary hunters, clearly the most important people in the world because entrepreneurs are the only source of consistent, positive human evolution and we always will be.

The fact is is that we've been around for a long time. And sometimes when I present the entrepreneurial personality type, people think, "Hey, are you saying it's us against them?" Kind of, because when we look at the systems today that are in the world, they're so deficit based that the stated goal of education today is what? Stated goal. What's the stated goal?

Speaker 3: Standardization.

Speaker 2: Standardization. Standardization is for the wall outlets in your house, not for your children. In the past 40 years you have to understand what's changed. They're coming after us. We are either on the precipice of a new age of entrepreneurial enlightenment or the new dark ages and it's happened before. In the past 40 years what's happened in school? They've taken away things that are important to me and all of you. Movement, creativity, the ability to choose your own direction, understand where you're going. And when I was in school, in grade school, there was a few hours of testing every other year. Today there are schools where there is a few days where there's not testing every year. It's completely reversed. And when we look at what that does to people like us, you guys know we are physiologically sensitive. Do you know what I'm saying when I say physiologically sensitive? Watch, I'll ask a question. Just yell out the answer. First thing you feel. When you experience a feeling, is it in your body first or head first? Which one?

Speaker 4: Body.

Speaker 2: This direction, right? You experience in your head first? Let's spend five minutes right after this, there's no way. Not in this room. Let me reconnect you because really we feel with our bodies, we interpret with our heads. Is that fair? Isn't that how it works for you? Why are we medicating our heads and not fixing our bodies?

Because we're just medicating the symptom of not being physiologically connected to the world around us because that's who we are. We interpret the world that way. See, I don't believe any of you really know what this means. Now I look like a nut job, right? It wasn't just issues, but you put that slide up say that and everybody thinks you're nuts.

Happy, sad. How many feel like you do know what that means? Because there's some contrast there, right? But anybody who has their hand up, explain to me the difference between sad, angry, frustrated, confused, ticked off, pissed off, and not just going to talk to you. Is there any difference? Really? See, I don't think people like us understand feelings.

What I did before with the gunshot and then the thing, I can't do that, but just think that. I really don't think we understand feelings. In fact, how many of you have been told for most of your life you don't feel right? I get a little ticked off talking about it. You're too intense and not intense enough. How many of you have heard crap like, "share your feelings more?" Or the number one most get a punch in the face comment from anybody who's an EPT, "tell me how you're feeling." How many of you have been in front of that poster? Like they use it in the US, I don't know if it's international. But it's supposed to ... It says, "how are you feeling today?" And it has like 24 faces on it. It's like four across and it goes down. You know what I'm talking about? It says like frustrated, confused, all that.

I was nine years old sitting in school. They put me in front of that poster they said, "Alex, how are you feeling today?" It was always a guessing game for me. It was like process of elimination. I would look at the thing and go, "Okay." I remember one time saying out loud, "Well my mouth can't make half of those shapes." Like how do you do this? Right? And I got in trouble for being smart. I was totally serious. I don't get it. I really don't get it.

Watch. How many of you have had your frustration confused for anger? How many of you have expressed confusion and had people get mad at you? How many of you have tried to tell people how you're feeling and had them respond in a way that there's no way you're telling anybody how you're feeling again? You know why? Because this whole language doesn't work for us. We don't care. The reason we don't like small talk is because we really don't understand it. We don't understand all of those feelings when somebody says, "let's talk about all this crap," right?

It's painful. Because you know what? Chances are you go to a dinner party someone will say, "how are you feeling?" And ever since I paid $175 for a therapist to ask me that once, I never wanted to hear it again. Because here's who we are. We're different. I know you're trying to figure out who the heck I am. I spent my early career as a consultant. Like not where you lose your job and change your LinkedIn profile, the consultant. I really was a consultant. Because these days I say consultant, people roll their eyes. It sucks. I worked with fortune 500, fortune 100 companies. I sat alongside some of the most successful people in the world. I watched four or five friends of mine go from humble means to being billionaires. I realized we're not wired the same way than the rest of the world and I became a really successful consultant, because I understood that this is who we are. We are momentum based beings.

How many of you get a physical charge off the word momentum. Because you know why? Our whole lives people have said, "Hey, be happy, be excited, be enthused, come with." And you know what we want to do was go forward. That's it. I don't need all that other stuff. We're momentum based beings, we exist in three different states. That's it. Three States. Watch. Momentum, when everything's going your way, things are going where you want them to. Let's hear, what does it feel like? Like you're flying. What else? Exciting. What else? Come on guys. Awesome. What else? Flow. Energy. This is a good group. Usually there's a lot of drug words that come up.

Because when we're in momentum, is that the only place in the world to be? Going forward where you want to be. That's when we are connected to our purpose, our soul, who we are and the rest of the world doesn't understand that. You know why? Because when we're agitated, what do they say to us? "Calm down, it's okay. Take a break." Watch. I'll do this to like three tables and they're all going to want to punch me. Stop.

Here's why. Momentum based beings are physiologically, cognitively and chemically sensitive. Watch. I'll ask you, "When you're in momentum, do you have more stamina? Can you go longer, is your body stronger?" Yes. Do you have a cognitive boost, are you a better decision maker? Are you having higher awareness? Do you get a chemical boost? You do, right? It's there when you're in momentum. Now watch. The second state, now we're intense because the second state that we exist in, this is momentum. This is facing resistance. It's where we're going forward in the world, but the world pushes against us and sometimes the cards are on the table. You're down to your last cent. You have nothing. No other options. There's only one choice. How many of you have been there and that's when you showed up, right? So how weird are we?

If it's going good, we create momentum and if it's not, we create momentum. Now, the only state that challenges us, this is the third state. And we have to be so careful about this one because we slip into it. We don't even know it. Constraint. Held in place, unable to see how to move forward. When the world conspires against you, the situation conspires against you, the institution conspires against you, or most likely you conspire against you and hold yourself in place. Tell me, what does it feel like? Hell. What else? Frustrating. You're so polite. Canadian? Cool. What else? Horrible. What else? Choking. Stuck. Let me ask you this, when you're in constraint, does your body break down? Yeah, you get sick? Okay, so there's a physical component, right? So physiological. When you're in constraint, do you have trouble thinking clearly? High pressure and noise. Like you really cannot see the forest for the trees, agree? Okay, so there's definitely a cognitive issue here. The big one, when you're in constraint, is there a chemical issue? How many of you have experienced the chemical effect of constraint?

So let's be very clear, the vast majority of prescriptions today are just the misdiagnosis of people like us in constraint. Because how many of you have ever gone for days having trouble sleeping because you've been so excited about an idea. How many of you have been so energized, you had trouble eating, you ate less, right? How many of you have had racing thoughts and really been excited about something? How many? Sweet, you're all manic. Now how many of you have also had periods where you couldn't think, you've struggled, you really couldn't move forward, couldn't find the forest for the trees. It affected you for at least two weeks. You had some challenges, but then you found that way to go back up. How many? Okay, sweet. So you're depressed. A lot of you raised your hands twice. We are all bipolar. Now let's really move forward with the acceptance of the facts, because this is who we are. See, we're driven by questions.
