Alex Charfen: I'm Alex Charfen and this is the Momentum podcast, made for empire builders, game changers, trailblazers, shot takers, record breakers, world makers and creators of all kinds. Those among us who can't turn it off and don't know why anyone would want to. We challenge complacency, destroy apathy and we are obsessed with creating momentum so we can roll over bureaucracy and make our greatest contribution. Sure, we pay attention to their rules, but only so that we can bend them, break them, then re-write them around our own will. We don't accept our destiny, we define it. We don't understand defeat, because you only lose if you stop and we don't know how. While the rest of the world strives for average and clings desperately to the status quo, we are the minority, the few, who are willing to hallucinate there could be a better future, and instead of just daydreaming of what could be, we endure the vulnerability and exposure it takes to make it real. We are the evolutionary hunters, clearly the most important people in the world because entrepreneurs are the only source of consistent, positive, human evolution and we always will be.

Train your team to win. If you train your team to win, they will go out and win for you over and over and over again. Here's why. Human beings want to win. Whenever somebody tells me, oh my team's lazy or they don't try that hard. They don't really care. They don't really put in the time. They don't put in the effort. I always wonder if the person I'm talking to realizes how much they're declaring about themselves. Because, as an entrepreneur, when your team's not excited, not in, not hooked in, not connected, not pushing forward, not in momentum, the responsibility is entirely up to you. Let that sink in. Whenever an entrepreneur complains about their team, especially those who do it publicly in Facebook messages or video posts, where they're like, I had to yell at my team today, or I had to kick some butt today, or knock heads together today, I always feel so sorry for that entrepreneur because what they don't realize is what they are declaring publicly and loudly, is that they suck at being a leader.

Because when you train your team to win, when you are a, and you don't even have to be an incredible leader, when you're just an efficient leader, an effective leader, your team will win for you over and over and over again. I have a client, Molly [Kaiser 00:02:30], who you've heard from before on this podcast if you've listened to enough of them. Molly runs a pretty incredible company. She trains photographers how to become boudoir photographers. How to take intimate pictures of women and she trains the photographers how to make as much as they would make in a week, in a morning. So, Molly's content is incredible. Over the past months, we've been working with Molly and her husband, [Aaron 00:02:55], to build a team and to show the team to win and to get them excited about the team results and to show them how to get into momentum. Here's what it takes.

So, we worked with Molly so that she and Aaron put in place for her team, clear outcomes, so you have to have a clear outcome for a team to be excited. They have to know exactly where they're going. Secondly, we put in clear accountability, so everyone on the team understood their part and knew what part they played in it. Then thirdly, we put in place clear scoreboards, so that the team would understand that they were moving forward and winning. And then, Molly and Aaron went on vacation, and going on vacation is one of the scariest and most precarious things for an entrepreneur to do. It feels like our business could just dry up and go away. Going on on vacations, intimidating, it has all of this risk. It feels like, you know, what if we're not working, nobody else will want to be working. Well, I love coaching Molly because she always shares with me the turning points that are so real and so vivid and prove that when you're an incredible entrepreneur, like she is, when you're willing to invest in your team, like she and Aaron have, and when you really have a mission and the right team involved, everything changes.

So, Molly and Aaron were on vacation and Molly forwarded me the message that you're about to hear from one of her team members, and I want you to listen to the excitement in the team member's voice and what she's sharing and what she's describing. You know, I'm not going to hold this back. Listen to Molly's team member and you can hear the absolute joy in her voice as she tells Molly and Aaron how well business is going while they're on vacation. Take a listen.

Speaker 2: Guys, we are at 2,999 subscribers as of this morning out of our 3,000 goal. So, [Irene's 00:04:54] like, I left my browser open to refresh it before the meeting just in case we got that last one subscriber. We are right on our goal and we're all super excited and happy and, yeah, hope you guys are having an awesome time. I don't know when you come home, if you're traveling over the weekend, be safe. Yeah, everything's going good. I updated some OTAs yesterday, and Molly, I'm finishing up your to-dos list. I'll have all that stuff ready by Monday, so that the team has time to look over upcoming stuff and, yeah, I hope you guys are having a great time. We miss you. Bye.

Alex Charfen: I absolutely love listening to that message. I've listened to it like three times. What do you hear there? One, a team member that is just as excited about Molly's goals as she is. In fact, Molly's on vacation waiting for the messages from her team and you can hear it, like, they're keeping their browser to see if they win. That is absolutely amazing. And then what did she say towards the end of the message? Filled Molly in on what she's doing. Made sure Molly's traveling back well. I mean, this is someone who is excited to be on a team while the owner's on vacation and she's there making things happen. What would it feel like in your company if you have that?

Here's what it takes. Give your people clear outcome, clear accountability and give them a scoreboard they understand. Could you hear the scoreboard in that message? The fact that they have 2,999 out of 3,000 leads that they wanted and they're sitting there, literally, refreshing the browser. Why? Because the whole team feels a momentum of having this outcome that they're chasing down and making happen. You can create this same dynamic in your team. Don't ever doubt for a second that you can't. So, I listened to the message that you just listened to first and then afterwards, I listened to the following message from Molly. She forwarded me that and then she left me this.

So, I want you to listen to Molly's voice. This is a business owner who's on vacation, who is away from her team, who isn't doing what she normally does. What normally happens to business owners when they're on vacation? You can hear the stress in their voice. You can hear the frustration. We feel ambiguous. We feel like we don't really know what we should be doing. Just take a second, and I want you to just listen to Molly's voice tone, to the way this message comes across. Can you feel any anxiety, stress or ambiguity in Molly's voice right now?

Molly: Hey, Alex. I forwarded you the above message from our executive assistant/project manager and I thought that you would love it because, like, we're away on vacation and they're so, so, so excited about hitting the goals and everything. It's so cool and they're like, we miss you guys. Our team is so awesome. I just wanted to share that with you because it's so cool and, yeah, we're excited to see you guys soon for [inaudible 00:07:49].

Alex Charfen: All I hear is an incredibly thrilled, entrepreneur who has a supportive team at home taking care of things while she and her husband are on vacation. What would it feel like for you if your team was leaving you messages like this, telling you that they miss you, telling you they got your back, telling you they're getting everything done for you and showing and demonstrating for you clearly, that they are in momentum even though you're not there? It's a game changer. If you're ready to build your team. If you're ready to create the atmosphere, the environment, where people get into momentum and they perform at an entirely different level, if you're ready to start helping people grow in your company and become better human beings and get more done, you can. Don't ever doubt the power of a company to help the people in the organization grow.
