This is the Momentum podcast. I want to show you how to stop being the biggest bottleneck in your business. How many of you feel like right now one of the conditions that's holding you back? One of the conditions that is slowing your growth is that in some way you are a bottleneck in your business. How many of you are in this situation? How many of you are in the feeling where if something is going to get done, you have to do part of it? Or if your team member needs to do something, they have to come through you. How many of you feel like the thing holding the business back right now is you and getting the leverage you need?

I'm Alex Charfen, and this is the momentum podcast made for empire builders, game changers, trailblazers, shot takers, record breakers, world makers and creators of all kinds, those among us who can't turn it off and don't know why anyone would want to. We challenge complacency, destroy apathy, and we are obsessed with creating momentum so we can roll over bureaucracy and make our greatest contribution.

Sure, we pay attention to their rules, but only so that we can bend them, break them, then rewrite them around our own will. We don't accept our destiny. We define it. We don't understand defeat because you only lose if you stop. And we don't know how. While the rest of the world strives for average and clings desperately to the status quo, we are the minority, the few who are willing to hallucinate. There could be a better future. And instead of just daydreaming of what could be, we endure the vulnerability and exposure it takes to make it real. We are the evolutionary hunters, clearly the most important people in the world, because entrepreneurs are the only source of consistent, positive human evolution and we always will be

Here's why so many people feel so many entrepreneurs feel like they're the biggest bottleneck in their business. It's simply the difference between reactive decision making, like the majority of entrepreneurs and proactive decision making, like the most successful entrepreneurs, c reactive decision making costs us a ton. It holds us back.

It's so it's pressure filled, proactive decision making where we're out building the building, the future that actually gives us momentum. It gives us energy back. So when I look at the difference between proactive versus reactive decision making, let's get into some details here. C reactive reactive decision making is when you're interrupted, when something comes up, when there's a crisis, when you're putting out of fire, reactive decision making, firefighting all day is draining. How many of you would agree this is draining? It decreases our awareness of what's going on.

If we're in a crisis mode, putting out a fire, we don't see a lot of what's happening, particularly if we're in a crisis mode. It actually is pressure filled at halts and stops our momentum. You know, this reactive decision making, the less of this we can do, the more successful we will be as an entrepreneur. And I realize that probably nobody's ever told you this. What we sell, what we do as a company is different than what the mass vast majority companies out there who claim to help entrepreneurs grow do see, we attack this at the tactical foundational level where you really make a huge difference because when you can go from reactive to proactive decision making. Check this out. When you're reacting is draining and decreases awareness.

It also stops momentum and it's pressure filled when you're proactive, decision making, when you're planning the future, when you're you're putting down things that are going to happen, it's energizing. It's actually exciting to plan the future. It increases awareness when we are in a proactive orientation with the optimism of looking at the future, we actually see more possibility. We see more options available. We pull in more possible scope when we're proactive.

It actually creates momentum in the moment when we take proactive decisions, when we make proactive decisions, when we build our future, it in the process creates momentum and building the future out this way, putting together a plan releases pressure. This is one of the most important differentiators in entrepreneurship that no one talks about. No one talks about stopping all of the reactivity and creating proactive decision making in your company. Here's why. Most entrepreneurs go their entire lives in reactive decision making, stuck in reactive decision making impact. I'm going to say something is going to sound judgmental, but it's not. I'm actually trying to be kind to you to let you know of a huge issue in the market is that a lot of people who are out there teaching entrepreneurs how to grow and scale their businesses are doing so from a reactive place in their own business. How many of you have bought a course or coaching or information product or something from another entrepreneur who as you went through their materials, you realized they were probably in a state of overwhelm because just trying to apply them overwhelmed you, because here's what we know about near one hundred percent of the entrepreneurs we talk to. They have been through another program. They've been through more coaching. They've been through something where they got burned. It's unfortunate that it's really the state of our market because here's what happens. Decision making fatigue is real. And when we make reactive decisions in the cost of decision making for a proactive decision doesn't cost us that much.

A reactive decision, the reacting, the moving backwards, the on our heels costs us a ton. And decision making fatigue is real. It will wear you down, break you down, it will make you exhausted, and it makes it so that you don't make as positive decisions. So here's what I want you to know.

If your team doesn't know where you are going, you will always be the biggest bottleneck. Just going to say twice, if your team doesn't know where you're going, you will always be the biggest bottleneck. This is like physics. This is like this is just how it works. You will always be reacting. Here's your team. And their destination is to get to their goals. If there is no strategic plan that spells out how you get there, your team must go through you. They have no choice there, especially if you hire true believers and people who really care and people who want to succeed. They are not only going to go through you, they're going to go through you aggressively.

And that's where we feel like it's death of a thousand paper cuts because we have people talking to us all the time asking those questions all the time. We have tons of interruptions and we feel the weight and pressure of being the biggest bottleneck. But there is a better way. In fact, when you have you and your team that can go through a strategic plan that will get you to your destination and your team, check it out is out in front of you. When there's a strategic plan, it creates the environment where your team is no longer behind you because they know where you're going, because they have the map of the destination, they don't have to wait for you to get them there. They can be out in front of you and make things happen.

This is one of the most incredible places to be as an entrepreneur, because let's get real about who we are. How many of you relate to this?

We are that tiny percentage of the population that gets up every morning. We go into the future. We create and create a new reality. We come back to the present and we demand it becomes real. When we come back to the present and we create a strategic plan, our team can actually make that reality real for us. And here's what I know about you and me as entrepreneurs. Unless that is happening, unless we're making it happen, we feel restlessly agitated, frustrated, anxious. Entrepreneurial anxiety is real. It usually comes from not creating that future fast enough.

I want to show you how you can do exactly that, just like our client, Julie Broad, did. Now, I love the story of Julie Broad. When she came to us, she was at two hundred thousand dollars in revenue a year. She really didn't have processes and systems in her business. She actually wasn't growing her team. And here's why. She had a small team of three people but was totally overwhelmed. In fact, I remember one of the first conversations I had with Julie was she said something like Alex, I don't really want to grow the business.

I just don't want to be as overwhelmed as I am. And that's a common thing that entrepreneurs tell us. It's like they're actually holding back the impact they could have because of the feeling of overwhelm. And she actually also lacked effective communication on her team. She was having trouble talking to everybody and getting everybody to go in the right direction. She was definitely the biggest bottleneck in the business.

So much so she didn't even want to grow it. We started working together in February twenty nineteen. And so here are the results she got. Julie came in. She built processes around everything that touch her clients. They helped her grow faster. She hired an operator. She created trust among her team. She encouraged the team to be the true, their true selves. She eliminated little problems and distractions, allowing people to get more done effectively. And here's what's really amazing. Within within a year, she went from two hundred thousand to nine hundred thousand dollars in her business. Her team has gone from three to 14 people. She's helping dozens of authors publish their first book successfully. And this is this is the quote that gets me excited. See, here's what Julie Broad did. She put together a strategic plan and that strategic plan has grown blown up the growth of her entire business. So she's gone from not wanting to build a team to through creating a strategic plan and getting out of the biggest bottleneck. Now she's blown our team up to make the maximum impact that they possibly can.
